 Baby Blankets

There are many options for buying baby blankets for your child. Bottom line is you want to keep your child warm on those cold nights. It is a good idea to purchase baby blankets that are hypoallergenic. Blankets can be made from wool, cotton, acrylic, yarn, or fleece and can be tightly or loosely woven.

Receiving blankets are a multipurpose, thin baby blanket that can be draped over the shoulder while holding a baby, wrapped around a baby while they are nursing to prevent them from becoming cold, or as a swaddling to keep the baby warm when you lay him or her down to sleep or go outside. Generally, you may want to lay another blanket over the baby if they are wrapped in this when going to sleep.

Blanket sleepers are a one-piece outfit for your baby usually made of a fleece-like material and act as a blanket to keep your baby warm. They usually zipper from the ankle to the neck allowing for easy on/off ability and have feet at the bottom to you're your little one snug. These shouldn't be used in place of a blanket however, but rather in conjunction with one to keep your child extra warm on those chilly nights.

When choosing baby blankets it is best to pick soft and cozy blankets that are plush and will keep your child nice and warm. Another factor to consider is how quickly the baby blanket may dry after washing as children may have accidents in the crib. You may want to stay away from really thick baby blankets that may cause suffocation to children in their early months. Other things to be aware of are fleece blankets that may become pilled over time because a child may pick these off and put them in their mouth. Another thing to keep your eye on is knitted baby blankets. Oftentimes the knitted ones loosen up over time allowing children to get their fingers and toes stuck in them.
