Bottles
There are many different shapes, colors, and sizes that baby bottles come in. You also have some options in choosing a nipple for the bottle. You can even choose glass or plastic and with or without a bag. What color you choose is unimportant, however the size and shape of the baby bottle, along with the nipple can be very important and depend upon your baby's needs.
Many parents like Avent baby bottles due to their unique airflow system that helps prevent gas pain in their child. These baby bottles are great for breastfeeding mothers because they can get an adapter kit to attach them to a breast pump. Avent also offers a variety of nipple sizes for their baby bottles, which come in 4oz. and 9oz. sizes, and either disposable or reusable.
Dr. Brown baby bottles are another popular brand because his design prevents the formation of a vacuum inside the bottle which reduces air bubbles, and helps to prevent colic, spitting up, gas, and other symptoms associated with bottle feeding. These baby bottles also have attachments to hook them up to a breast pump for convenient filling.
For those of you who like to use glass baby bottles to reduce the chances of harmful chemicals associated with some plastic baby bottles, Evenflo is the choice for you. These glass bottles also double as storage containers for milk so you can have feedings set up in advance for your baby.
One other popular baby bottle model is the Playtex Ventaire. This bottle features an angled neck that helps to ensure the milk stays bubble free preventing gas build up in your baby. These particular ones also open from both ends allowing for easier clean up.
After choosing the bottle that works for you and your baby it is important that you sterilize everything, especially in the first few months of your child's life. Sterilization prevents your child from succumbing to certain illnesses or bacterial infections such as thrush. Simply place your baby bottles and nipples in a pot of boiling water for 5 minutes and you're done. Be sure to remove them with a sterile instrument as well. Disposable bottle inserts are ready to use and do not need to be sterilized. You can also get microwaveable steamers for your baby bottles that can make the process a little bit easier.
