 Baby Food

Many parents wonder when they should start their baby on solid foods. It is recommended that you breast-feed or feed your baby for at least their first year so ensure they receive all the necessary vitamins they need. You can start feeding them solids before they reach a year, but you should still breast-feed or feed them formula as well.

Every baby will be different, but generally, once a baby can sit up and support itself on its own they are ready for solid baby food. You may want to start with a baby cereal since it will be the easiest for your baby to adapt to. They are also enriched with vitamins your baby needs. Feed your baby until they turn the food away. Since this is new to your baby it may require some patience on your part to help your baby get used to this new tasting food and using a spoon.

Info: Making Your Own Baby Food

Now that your baby is eating solids you may also want to start introducing other foods such as vegetables and meat. Baby food jars come in different sizes to adapt to your growing baby. They aren't necessarily going to follow along exactly with your child's age, but you'll get a feel for how much your baby wants to eat, which will make picking out the right jar easy. You should feed your baby whenever he or she is hungry, but it is good to get your baby used to eating at fixed times.

Since there are so many different kinds of baby food to choose from you should go by a trial and error to see which your baby seem to like best. To make sure your baby is getting the proper nutrition, be sure to get fruits, vegetables, and meats. Consider buying vegetable gardening books and grow your own vegetables from home so you can save money in the long run by picking your own fresh vegetables. Giving small servings of vegetables along with breast milk or formula will make your baby grow nice and healthy. It is also good to give your baby juice as well for extra vitamins and your baby will enjoy it as well.
