 Having A Baby

So you're having a baby. Assuming you have taken a pregnancy test or seen a doctor to verify that you're pregnant there are some things you should take care of. One of the most important things is finding a gynecologist or a mid-wife to deliver the baby for you. After deciding this it is important to figure out which hospital you would like to deliver the baby in, or if you would like to deliver the baby at home with a mid-wife. Another important thing is a plan of action once the baby is ready to be delivered. You will need a ride to the hospital along with a bag of clothing to change into after the baby is delivered.

After the first couple months of pregnancy you are going to need to buy maternity clothes. Along with maternity clothing, you may opt for some nursing clothing as well if you are planning on breast-feeding your child. There are no limits to the types of clothing you can choose now that you are pregnant. You can buy nursing bras, lingerie, swimwear, shirts, and even dresses.

A pregnancy calendar is good for first time mothers to follow so they know what to expect throughout the duration of their pregnancy. These calendars can be day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month, or trimester-to-trimester.

Since words can not exactly describe the pain associated with labor and childbirth it may be a good idea to take Lamaze classes to help prepare for this. Lamaze classes aren't just to learn how to breathe during childbirth. Upon completion of a Lamaze class you will have learned all about labor and birth, breathing strategies that encourage a less painful, more relaxed childbirth, tips for the coach involved, including communication methods, and complications that may arise during birth.

Other things to think about before giving birth should be whether or not you want a natural childbirth or the aid of drugs such as an epidural or anesthesia. There is no right or wrong here. Some mothers will argue that you should opt for the drug free method and experience what women for thousands of years have experienced without these options. Other mothers will tell you the pain is so unbearable that you will definitely want to use some pain relief during childbirth. Whichever path you choose you should be proud of yourself in the end for completing the miracle that is childbirth.
